is this just bullshit so the school can convince itself and parents that it takes academics seriously?
kid is starting K next year and got a packet of "summer homework" which is a bunch of dumb worksheets that he will be able to do in an hour.
i never had "summer homework" and i got into multiple ivies.
wtf the point is this shit?

Teachers always complain that kids forget half of the prior years instruction. They're convinced the answer is if only the parents would do homework with their kids during the summer we could avoid repeating half of the prior years work. But also during the school year kids are expected to do zero homework until highschool. So these kids have never done anything like homework at their actual home, and they're expected to during the summer?
Also school is 90% flame.

What a dumb post.
Teachers are giving your kids homework before kindergarten because they're trying to set expectations for what your kid should know. Some kids can already read and some kids don't know any letters - so they're trying to account for that.
If your kid knows all his letters/sounds/numbers and 50+ sight words he's fine. If he doesn't then you should work on that so he's not behind everyone else.

ur poast is dumb. summer homework seems like a really retarded and inefficient way to set expectations for what a kid should know on day 1 of kindergarten.
giving kids an assessment and making them work on things they dont know would be far more logical than giving every kid the same stupid worksheets.
my kid was 99%ile for his grade this reading assessment they do 3x/yr, and he is already doing low-number multiplication tables. what the fuck are these stupid worksheets going to do for him?
