They are talking about removing the cap on payroll taxes. This would turn into a 13% tax increase on the self employed on income above 180k. On top of other taxes, it would basically take away 20% of my current post tax income, roughly speaking.
As a Shitlaw boss, I am reminded daily of how important SS is to America. I talk to multiple proles every day who have literally no income other than their monthly SS check. If it gets cut, it means real pain and it means political consequences. But JFC, is there some way to fix this other than just going after entrepreneurs? |

I own my home and it's in a fairly LCOL area so we can get by on 60-80k/year no problem. Dividends will fit under the standard deduction and I can sell 130k+ every year (less whatever dividend income I had) at 0% long term capital gains rate. so i'll just be cycling my cost basis upward every year. I may sell less to game obamacare subsidies to the max but then that would reduce my yearly outlay. |
