artists have zero say in their tour management
sheeran's whole schtick has also been political neutrality. at least he pried a few million out of Kraft's grubby claws

i'm a little surprised that the issue of politics and political statements from stage isn't raised and resolved before a tour begins.

He should have just said, "I'm not a political person, but I support everyone's right to free speech" and left it at that

Sheeran is right here, at least insofar as he's on the side against every event becoming a one-sided political rally for the latest pop, mainstream leftist cause--directed, in this case, at a captive audience that just came to hear some music. It's Gaza today. In the past, it would have been climate change, orange man bad, blm, covid vaccines, land acknowledgements, Darfur, free Tibet... (None of which problems have been solved, of course.)
People should be able to go enjoy a concert without having the cause of the moment futilely shoved in their face. It would be different if it were an explicitly political show, like rage against the machine. (But see the classic ratm xo vaccine thread, "fuck yes I'll do what you tell me.")
Also--This relates to yhe phenomenon of left leaning causes bleeding into each other. Environmental groups are no longer strictly environmental groups. They are instead environmental and anti-racist groups.

Ed Sheeran is more like a corporation and the most profitable one of all time in live music
His opening act is irrelevant, the other people playing in his band are irrelevant.
He could come out alone with guitar and 0 other musicians the whole night and still sell out the tour
Sheeran probably has no idea who Macklemore is or what's going on with the that (like most normal people).
He's going to continue conducting business and stacking cash like usual
