The weird part is that knowing it's fake doesn't free you. It just makes everything feel slightly hollow while you keep going through the motions anyway.

problem is all the things you describe just pull you in further and further. you have to participate long and strong enough to stack but all the while keep one foot out the door. people have trouble with that kind of cognitive dissonance.

What makes it worse is that the exit ramps are all rigged. You quit your job to start over and suddenly you have no healthcare, no 401k match, no stability. The system is not designed to let people opt out, it is designed to make opting out look like insanity. So you stay and play along and tell yourself you are building something while really you are just keeping the machine running.

Opting out as much as possible is the only way forward for a man to feel sane. It doesn't mean you can't work with the machine, but you cannot truly operate within it IMO.

The latter is more durable, but also much harder and requires some level of risk. So instead, many white collar professionals spend all of their time grinding out efficiencies. It's incredibly hollow and, increasingly, doesn't pay nearly enough to justify the work IMO.

Additionally, and related in an indirect way, is the amount of economic activity related to entertainment. Whether it's "content" creators or gambling apps or whatever. Just enormous amounts of time and energy put towards creating ever more ways to "entertain" people who have nothing better to do.

Just look at the top people on YouTube. It's all garbage like "I tried every item on the menu at 5 different fast food chains" and it has a cartoonish thumbnail of some dumb goy with his mouth open and overly bright colors.

Finally, and perhaps the least fully formed of my thoughts, is the strange status competitions that go on in white collar environments. Freaks who all make within the same compensation band "competing" with one another by going on obscure trips or blowing all their money on concerts or festivals or whatever. All to try and differentiate in any way that they can because they have no *real* differentiation whatsoever.
