Today's artists are influencers and internet personalities who convert to ultra low effort pop stars. The problem is that the music is not the product. No one has solved for this. Regardless of genre there's no functional musical artists where the music is the art. The art is the attention economy which is fueled by social media. |

I don't necessarily like all those bands but those are all post 2010 success stories. It definitely happens. More commonly in the British Commonwealth than the USA. You can obviously make it big in rock. The generation before that had White Stripes, Kings of Leon, MCR, FoB, Panic, TBS, Linkin Park and countless more. So yes it's diminished but it's not gone. If someone had a lot of talent they would rise to the top. |

Look at how Tame Impala and King Gizzard and The Chats came out of Australia. Much whiter country, poorer than US, lower cost of living. It's still possible, but probably not in the US. No middle class means no one to take risks. 50% of whites are zogged out the other half are coders and attorneys trying to survive. Everyone and everything is cooked but they seem to still be cooking in Australia. Even Alvvays came out of Canada and Alt J is British. There's definitely a cultural element.
