What would happen if I had a YouTube webseries where I just went through my high school yearbook one by one putting up a picture with the full legal name of the person and just described in great detail everything I remember about them from start to finish. I mean don't we all have like 12 years of memories about these people? What if I just dished my personal opinion and every wild story about hundreds of people with no explanation as to why I was doing it. I could just put up a pic and go this was Brian Chan, he played the piccolo. I remember when we were 14 he had a crush on Susie Silverstein but she thought he was invisible.

I probably have dozens of hours of content I could fill about all the people I grew up with and random shit like Bobby's dad died randomly one night. I had one friend whose dad lost a bunch of fingers in an accident and we all thought it was mob related.

Is any of this legal to speak about publicly on the internet with their picture and full legal name or will I just get sued to shit over it? Could I talk shit about some chick who never developed? Could I say this guy ultimately died of an overdose at 25? Really need a legal opinion on this before I go live looking directly into a camera and air out decades of intimate personal details about all these people. Is this legal if I just rely on memory?

100% legal so long as it's not defamatory or threatening. First Amendment rights are pretty broad. Defamation requires a false statement of fact, so if you're just talking shit and giving your opinion of them from HS that wouldn't count.

why would you include their full names, making doxxing 17394949x easier? at least cover up the last name. would be better to change the names completely

also, i envy not only your storytelling ability but also your memory. i do not remember anything from high school or earlier

And then he could embellish the details, make up stories even. Hell he could just write a script about a random person and make a movie out of it.

There's something inherently fun about calling out people by their full name the way everyone does in high school when talking about anybody. Remember when you had a crush on Lisa so and so? But there were three Lisa's in that class so you had to call her by her full name for differentiation?

I remember my sister had a friend with the same name as my gf so we always called them by their name plus initial. Like Sarah D and Sarah M to avoid confusion. Of course you could change the names and embellish the stories but there's something less satisfying about a roman-à-clef. I want to present this all as eyewitness testimony. And banging around with the full legal names just adds to the humor irl.

Because of your kind words I will leave you with this little snippet of memory. One time in the 8th grade we had a sleepover at my house and this Japanese kid, we'll call him Hideki Fujimori (name edited for anonymity), who ironically, and I cannot make this up, now works in biglol, we were all playing The Sims and he recreated this domestic life with him and this skinny white girl he had a massive crush on. We'll call her Bridget Covington. She was this incredibly dull tall blonde white girl of seemingly pure blood Anglo ancestry. And anyway we stayed up all night while this extremely naturally Adderalled out fobby Jap sperged out building this romantic life with Bridget Covington in a virtual world while eating pizza and drinking Mountain Dew.

The irony is that of all of my loser friends I was the only one who had ever spoken to her. We were on a group project together about the Civil War and the teach put us together as partners. This is 100% not flame but the way we tackled the project was I delivered a lengthy sermon about the detailed history of the event while she passed out slices of some kind of period correct cake. We got an A. But what was a really big deal at the time is that in order to conspire on our project I had to call her home phone. I had to call her landline and talk to her dad and explain who I was and why I was calling Bridget Covington. And anyways to my dumb friends this was an exceptional breach into the realm of the feminine and they all thought I was a living diety especially Hideki Fujimori who was absolutely rife with jealousy but would never Act on his own accord. I hope he's enjoying biglaw wherever he is. I never had a crush on Bridget Covington.

for the names, it would be fun to come up with names that had the same vibe as the originals but weren't exactly the same. again this is just so that if it blew up, freaks couldn't easily find these people's addresses and shit

State of current residence or state where this all took place? Different statues for teachers because they're public employees? I assume I can speak publicly on anything I experienced with regards to a government employee, no?

The state of residence of the people in the yearbook, whose rights you are potentially infringing upon. Xo 2026 jfc.

You can speak publicly in the US as long as it's truthful but there are limitations on how you can use someone's photo (image/likeness) without permission.
