It’s ok though! The Knicks won! The whole MSG is filled with people watching ball on a big screen live from San Antonio! Don’t pay attention to the Ai problem

And don’t notice great stocks are down 8%! You can’t buy it! You’re too hung over from the Knicks! Girls will like you bc you’re 40 and wearing a man’s jersey!

Wouldn’t that be the best case scenario. If no one can work then no one can pay for anything. Some kind of wide scale reform would be forced at the very least.

in this particular case i'm not being anti-tech, i'm mocking threatening and defaming the idea that there will necessarily be human-friendly social reform in response to technology taking all jobs away from humans (why would humans get better treatment in response to them losing power and leverage?

Sudden, massive labor displacment is the only thing that might cause reform. The frog has been boiling for years already with most jobs being complete bullshit.

I think it's more likely we'll just wind up in some sort of feudualism where superfluous proles make up 99% of the population and are kept at sustenance levels that will curb violent revolt but no more.

It'll be hard and expensive to cull the masses. But we'll never know the outcome. In our lifetime we'll just witness the beginning of what's to come, and most here are secure enough to not experience the consequences.

don't worry our google glasses can tell us where to go and ubers will all be self driving and not run by some sketchy helosir company that crashes all over the place and iphones won't be exactly the same crap as they were in 2010 and giving kids ipads in schools instead of textbooks is healthy and educational and won't piss off parents.

This sort of talk is just as stupid as "AI is flame." In fact, they're two sides of the same coin. The AI is flame crowd uses this bar as their argument. Yes, AI will kill a ton of jobs but corps will still have most of their functions. They will still have Legal, Marketing, HR, Strategy, Finance, etc. even if each group will be leaner than before.

this already happened with the inventions of email and excel. tons of mindless paper pushing was done away with. AI is fucking useless in it's current form unless you don't give a fuck what is written on the emails you send out or you actually are illiterate/esl. most of the ppl cheerleading AI seem to be in the esl camp plus the boomers who just want one final chance to fuck everyone else over yet again.

chat-bot is not the AI i'm referring to. AI agents with structured input/output can automate everything a worker does on a computer.

can your "AI Models" figure out how to search for threads prior to 2012? because that would actually be useful. until then stfu.

You're writing a series of strawmen. You went from "AI will cause everyone to be laid off" to "oh cool well so long as they keep the departments, mass layoffs won't actually effect anyone." Obviously they'll affect a lot of people especially in certain functions just like every technological revolution has. We used to have an army of secretaries and paralegals who are largely gone because most of the shit they used to do has already been automated. Outsourcing also killed a ton of jobs in the US. This is just another layer of the same thing.

Shit like this is always expressed with panicky certainty that ironically reveals fear and uncertainty. Like a CEO telling investors everything will be fine in the midst of a disaster that kills the company.
