because it would cause total chaos in mexico. their government has been complicit for decades. they are intertwined at the highest levels and the cartels will not go down quietly. it would be a war for the soul of mexico and a shocking amount of them trust the cartels more than the government. and as soon as we bomb some kid selling candy we'd lose the whole country and a ton of mexicans stateside would riot in the streets.
also it could easily turn into a straight up guerilla war and you'd see some insane shit in el paso, san diego, etc. on a regular basis. i don't know if they're as ruthless as the jihadmos, but they're real close. their only play against our military is american deaths, which to their credit they have almost completely avoided up to this point. but they've killed plenty of bystanders in mexico just to prove a point. throwing grenades into bars, gunning down weddings, beaches, children, pretty much whatever they want. now imagine it's a texas roadhouse.
it would be a lot easier to legalize drugs and turn the market over to american companies that are taxed to the hilt, but that's just too much freedom and individual liberty for us to handle.
