and its not just the spit valve shit, you have to lube all the sliding parts and the grease inevitably spills out
if he insists on learning it, keep it as a side instrument and focus on a main one (drums, guitar, whatever)

I had a trombone when I was young and never picked it up again after getting a guitar. I wish I’d learned a little drums and keys too. Knowing basic piano is really useful for music in general and you should learn it young along with guitar. And being able to keep a basic drum beat. Then he can join any band.
