CHARLOTTE — A Dilworth business owner said he shared surveillance footage to help Charlotte-Mecklenburg police identify a suspect accused of randomly attacking a woman along East Boulevard in Dilworth.
“It’s very disturbing,” said Paper Skyscraper owner Bill Godwin.
Channel 9’s Miana Massey spoke with Godwin, who turned over surveillance video to help track down a suspect accused of randomly attacking a woman down the block from his store.
Di-quan Hunt randomly punched a woman, police said, as she walked along East Boulevard at Euclid Avenue on the morning of July 30, appearing to knock her out.
She was badly hurt. The victim’s family said Friday afternoon that she was out of the hospital and is doing OK.
Hunt appears to have filmed the attack himself and then posted multiple videos to Instagram.
Godwin said he spoke with the victim’s family Thursday night, expressing his condolences. He said she is recovering.
His surveillance video showed Hunt walking past the store moments before it happened.
“There are a lot of local businesses up and down East Boulevard and have been for decades,” Godwin said. “As it happened, everyone was just willing to share and help out to help bring this situation to a close.” ‘Worried’
In another video, a woman ran from the suspect, using a car to try to block her from her intruder.
Channel 9 spoke with a woman in Dilworth on Friday morning.
“I walk through this area, pretty much every day,” she said. “Usually, by myself, as well. So, that just makes me a little worried to be walking in this area.” ‘Revolving door’
Channel 9 looked into Hunt’s past charges and convictions.
Since the beginning of 2025, Hunt has been arrested at least five other times.
The latest was last December 2025 when he pleaded guilty to threatening a man with a knife.
In that case, he took a plea deal and was given credit for time served.
Local Rep Tricia Cotham, R-Mecklenburg, said her colleagues in the House are working to make sentencing more strict
“It is absolutely asinine that some of these people, many people, are having a revolving door. Especially in Mecklenburg County,” said Cotham.
Hunt is facing charges in a series of assaults across Uptown Charlotte.
He’s accused of pepper spraying a man at the transit center in September 2025.
Hunt then allegedly spit on an officer at Mint and Trade streets in November 2025.
He reportedly threatened someone with a knife weeks after that, which also happened at the transit center.
There was another report filed on Friday morning. However, Public Records told Channel 9 that report won’t be ready for another 24 to 48 hours. In custody
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department took Hunt into custody Thursday night.
He has been involuntarily committed for mental health issues. He will face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon after receiving treatment. Crimestoppers
CMPD believes there could be more victims tied to Hunt.
