I mean if your sole concern is losing weight it might work for some but you would lose lots of muscle at the same time to begin with if you have any, plus you are going to be malnourished due to lack of animal protein/saturated fat etc.
Also many people who need to lose a significant amount of weight tend to be sensitive to carbs so a carb heavy diet like this probably wouldn’t do much for them.
If you’re going to do something like that it would be far superior to due a low carb diet and focus on fatty animal meat, eggs, etc. as that is more satiating and nutritious. Your calories would be low but your nutrition would be much higher.
Of course it’s much more expensive than eating only potatoes like a peasant though.

No. CI/CO is absolutely the mechanism behind weight loss. If we could accurately calculate your daily caloric requirements and then you ate 500 calories less than that per day, you would lose 1 lb per week with 100% certainty.

There's some truth to it, but it leaves a lot missing from the picture.
Microplastics, processed sysco slop, mutated monsanto trash, etc. That shit all fucks with hormones and lowers metabolism. So effectively calories out goes down. Also could make you more likely to binge eat/overeat because you aren't satiated. So calories in goes up.
Depending on what you eat and how you exercise calories can go to or come from muscle, and go to or come from fat. Typically your body will burn fat and glycogen up to a certain point and then start to break down muscle. It's usually not a concern unless you are doing heavy cardio, but it might be with all of our jacked up hormones these days.

One dumb thing about the calories in, calories out is that you have to figure out what "in" mans.
Just because you're putting in 5,000 calories doesn't necessarily mean your body is aborbing 5,000 calories. I'm just making shit up, but it sure seems to me that if you ate like 5,000 calories in one meal, your body is not going to take in those calories the same way they would if it was 5,000 over the course of the day.

Lol where does the “refute physics” meme come from? A person’s body metabolizes different types of food differently even if they have the same number of calories. The result on body chemistry and body composition is likewise different.
Of course as a general rule it can help people lose weight but the real culprit is the type of food people are eating that is damaging their bodies, disrupting their hormones and metabolic processes, etc.

Your first paragraph is vague handwaving that ignores the main issue.
If someone has a caloric deficit, then they will lose weight, whether their calories come from snickers bars or steaks or a balanced diet. Losing weight has a whole host of positive health associations, probably play least partially because excess fat increases cellular senescence
This doesn't mean that a snickers bar diet has much to recommend to it compared to normal diet. But it does mean that you can lose weight on such a diet, and will experience certain positive health effects from that weight loss (and if one has a really big caloric deficit, one might even experience some of the benefits of intermittent fasting incidentally)
Improved health outcomes for a huge percentage of (fat) people is actually really fucking simple: eat less than you burn. Also eat some variety so you don't get weird nutritional issues. No need to overcomplicate shit

There is virtually no such thing as an obese person who does the following:
1. does not eat a large caloric excess every day (2500+ calories at a minimum)
2. eats primarily whole and unprocessed foods in reasonable quantities
3. routinely engages in physical activity
if you force anyone to do those threes things, they will cease to obese. all fats overeat and they eat garbage. over time, they just grow fatter unless they change their habits. it's just that easy.

As someone known on this bort for gorging on McDoubles in his youth, I do all three now.
We just don't buy sweets or packaged foods (except for cold cuts/bacon), I work on my property basically everyday (today I bought and moved 7000lbs of hay into my barn).
I think the trick is to find a physical hobby and never let any junk food enter your home. Make a rule that any desert needs to be fully homemade (e.g. we sometimes have homemade brownies).
