They had to make his son lame and a mere shadow of Walter to make clear that Walter's choice was 1) dying and having no real legacy or 2) become the kingpin he always deserved to be but was robbed of because of what happened with his old company.

CR. Isn't it in the pilot or second ep when they are clothes shopping and Walt attacks the teenagers making fun of Walt Jr.? The set up was that he's leaving behind a pregnant wife and a kid who is weak and will be abused by life. Walter is imagining them scraping by in some shitty apartment in a bad neighborhood (which is where they end up by the end of the series).
Walt Jr. is also just another aspect of Walter's life that's unfulfilling. He's Walter's constant reminder of the path he didn't take when Skyler got pregnant. And a kid who will never play sports, never bring home a pretty girl, likely never have a family or much of a career. He's another mouth to feed and Walter's last memories of him will be when he was at his whiniest and most-emo teenage bitch stage.

This thread is depressing to look back on and realize how many poasters were too stupid to understand the basic themes of Breaking Bad, let alone how they completely miss secondary levels like Walt Jr.’s existence being a product of modern science and man playing God and how that context might inform Walt as a character and/or his origin story. In the thousands of hours I spent on XO I’ve wasted my life just like Walt did. So I guess I should probably find a local hoodlum and start dealing drugs with him just to feel alive for a moment before the cartel murders me.
