Nas is the dork pick ime. His stuff is more often than not so melancholy, navel-gazing, choleric, depressive. Guy is like the real life Dwayne from GTA4. I get that bar for bar he's more dense than either of the other two and his rhymes are less choppy and for certain he's got a great flow but ehhhhh. Like Kendrick Lamar of today you'd never just throw a Nas album on, it's just stuff you'd write scholarship about to show technical mastery of the material. When I'm in a rare rap phase I find it hard to get into

Big for lyricism and Pac for energy are probably the only cr picks. I vote Biggie personally

It’s Pac even though he’s the least lyrical of the three.

Pac has all the flair and the energy

It's a respectable choice even if he was a ballerina

He also was clearly the most passionate and saw himself as undertaking a Great Project and that he was going to become part of History.

Vs. biggie was clearly just leveraging his (immense) talent as a way to get bling and fuck bitches. And Nas is like an autist savant, he’s so off the chart brilliant with his lyricism there’s nothing else he could be doing so he just keeps making (amazing) east coast music. Neither of them see themselves as having a Greater Purpose, that’s the difference.

idk i feel like Biggie's general "weirdness" comes from having the Diddler as his manager. he was an awkward fat kid and suddenly got thrust into the limelight with this sex pest producer managing every detail of his image and using the feud with pac/wc/whoever to keep him under the gun

underneath all of that you still had a former Pac protege who clearly wanted to express what he'd learned in flatbush or whatever as best as he could and in a situation-unique fashion. Ready to Die was arguably "deeper" than anything Pac put out during the same era which, being frank, often just rode the popular black sentiments of the times into stardom with Death Row pumping him full of petrol all the while. Cube did the same thing imo and same with the rest of the NWA guys post-breakup; it wasn't uncommon

Biggie loyally rode with Puffy as his perceived way to the top. No one forced him to get into power boats for music videos that was a choice he made he was a grown ass man and he wasn’t stupid. Also, Ready to Die is an all time top 10 album but Biggie also had an (unfortunately) limited output before he died which always handicaps him in these discussions.

Pac was making passionate, activist, culturally and historically informed, angry, reactionary, thoughtful, poignant, intense music well before his Death Row days, please don’t try to paint him into a corner like you’re doing. Death Row just threw fuel into the existing fire that was already raging from being falsely imprisoned and having experienced a serious attempt on his life.

i have heard without verification or credible sourcing that suge set up the whole arrest thing and trip to Clinton to blow his career up by giving his performing arts school background some street credibility beyond what he had with his ex black panther mother

i have no sources to link on this but it's a common rumor in the discussion around the topic and repeated enough and with some specificity that there may be some truth to it

You have no source for it because it’s made up nonsense.

Just like the nonsense (which had a ton of internet currency) that Suge called a hit on Pac while he was riding in the car with him.

That's what Cube said in ~2014 and I tend to agree when you look into how this stuff all got started in the late 80s in particular

Fwiw I don't think any of the greats in the field were actual spook puppets but no doubt they were riding forces set into motion by nefarious state actors. The rise in gang warfare in south california dovetails well with the alleged importation of narcotics from south america into the US
