Example:
2025.10.1 - Motion to Dismiss (7 digits plus periods)
OR
2025.10.01 - Motion to Dismiss (8 digits plus periods)
I think that many firms use the 8 digit variety, but why? What is the purpose?
I use the 7 digit version, but might start using the 8 digit in January

looks classy and readable. OP's periods look gay and european, plus oldmos would never use a period in the name of a file bc it could get confused with a file extension
7 digits vs 8 prevents sorting

We may have worked for the same man. He pointed out having four digits for the date was only necessary "for now" to avoid ambiguity between which digits were the day and which were the year. Once the year 2032 rolls around, he excitedly pointed out that can change the format to 01JAN32 because such ambiguity will no longer be possible.
