Not sure how Netflix could F up the novel, but I assumed they’d find a way.
It moves well, well cast, lots of sexy nude Colombian girls, true to novel, really 180

finished ep 8 and realized this season is only half the book.
its very good tho.
bookfags will cream over the book and have claimed it is unfilmable for decades. but this tv show gets it very right

been a long time since I read the book, so I cannot remember a specific rape scene
there is a scene where a son forces himself upon his mother, via mistaken identity, which they soften up a bit.
they use the appropriate spanish word for faggot, which tells me they were not overly censored.
they have also refrained from forcing in some black characters. when a colombian is described as mulatta, the actress is mulatta. There is maybe one, non-speaking role I can think of where someone is african without explanation, but its not distracting.
in short, the garcia marquez family insisted the series be made by colombians, with colombians, in colombia, and that probably saved it

no its pretty great.
it did kick down the doors for "magical realism" tho, a latinx subgenre that spawned a million horrible, terrible pieces of shit.
if you will throw a book across the room once a character levitates, or a teen girl's orgasm causes an earthquake, not the book for you
