Date: April 11th, 2026 6:58 AM Author: Crimson Area Chad An interesting aspect of Japan is everyone thinks of it as very tech forward, but in some ways it is very Luddite and old-fashioned, in an endearing and charming way, for example tons of restaurants and other establishments do not accept credit cards, as a result pretty much everyone carries around substantial amount of cash as a necessity. Also everyone places a great deal of care into doing things right and not rushing. I was once in a gift shop in Tokyo with a substantial haul of various gifts and trinkets, the girl at the checkout counter took her time meticulously gift wrapping every single piece for me (with no extra charge for it) while a line of about five people formed and patiently waited. I felt a little bit awkward, but nobody in the line seemed upset at all. This was just how things are there. |
