How Watchmen came up with his moniker

He said he read every thread, this was circa 2008 or so, maybe as early as 2007. He said he plotted out his whole shtick. He wrote down thread ideas in a spiral notebook.
He thought of the moniker when he went to see The Dark Knight in theaters in 2008. There was a preview for the Watchmen film which ended with "Who Watches the Watchmen?". He said it was that moment that his moniker came to him.
He said that he started poasting into the void and most of this threads were never bumped. All stuff like "what if a caveman," "should I grow a beard" etc. He said his best threads were never bumped. He just let them fade into the void. In the beginning he would never bump anything he wrote, just wait for it to catch on. He practiced his shtick with discipline like a samurai. He always said his biggest influence was Japanese Business Dude, inventor of WGWAG.
He also would famously do taking qs threads where he would only answer a few questions and then stop and watch the thread fill up with unanswered questions. That was a hallmark of his early shtick.
He considered poasting his life's work. |
