job comes closest to wrestling with / addressing the problem of evil

Ecclesiastes comes closest to addressing the vanity of achievements and possessions

In job god is an angry and petulant tyrant. He makes a deal with the devil to test job and after taking away all his possessions and relationships God goes on a giant tirade yelling at job for daring to question his decisions, while he never admonishes the devil for setting all this in motion

In other words God is not just all good but all good and all bad — he seems to embody all traits instead of just the good ones

I think the end of Job, when Job is given a bunch of free shit by God, doesn't fit with the rest of the story, and may have been added to the story by someone who couldn't cope with how God tortured Job for no reason.

agree. God comes off as a complete asshole in Job, and I dont think God has time for that or really cares to partake in such pettiness. That said, i really like Genesis in and of itself, and Revelations comes in a close 2nd.

What does that even mean that god gives job 10 new kids after killing all his old kids? What kind of solution is that to this test lol

maybe he killed his old kids attitude, and gave him his kids back with updated attitudes, or Kids v2.0 if you will.

Funnily enough, when I heard this story as a kid, the pastor or whatever made it worse than it is in the book and said Job's wife died but it's cool because God gave him a new one. This isn't even right, Job's wife maeks it through the entire story. I have no idea how somebody who's job it is to know this shit fucked that up.
