It's a good gig in the sense that you get to be an "expert" that people have to check in with on every deal.
But its annoying because you're mostly delivering bad news, or telling people that some deal is incredibly "risky" because someone might find out the customer's name.
A lot of it to me is obviously make work from privacy counsels. They all insist on having 10 page data processing addendums - but i think this is only becuase its such a new area of law that they're flaming everyone. I think there's a chance in 10 years the contracts go back to say "Each party agrees to comply with all data privacy laws and safeguard data with reasonable care" and people start ignoring the privacy attorneys.

EU: lol, no
What strikes me is that most privacy counsel are barely acting like real lawyers. These privacy addenda are just another legal agreement. But most have no idea how to risk adjust anything. They’ll spend time going back and forth on a customer standard vs your own standard when realistically they’re the same from a risk standpoint. If there’s any damage from breach it will have nothing to do with whatever is being discussed. It’s just factual check boxing activity. Shameful stuff.
