Austin-based tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson—founder of Retention.com, RB2B, and MoltSets—had an estimated personal net worth of around $6 million (excluding the equity and valuation of his bootstrapped companies), according to figures shared in May 2025.
No idea how much his companies were worth but did he really need to be flying private? It's not like he's too famous or busy to fly commercial. Just put the family and the nanny in first class. Oh well.

They were headed to ELH which means likely on to Harbour Island. Only commercial flights to ELH from the US are via MIA on AA and ATL on DL so I guess they didn't want to connect? This is why you don't charter jets from rando fly by night operations run by Ethiopians.

Do you want to drop $30k to feel rich
Chartering a private flight from Austin, TX (AUS) to Bermuda (TXKF) covers a distance of roughly 1,750 nautical miles. A Learjet 60 has a non-stop range of about 2,200 to 2,400 nautical miles, allowing it to easily complete this flight without a fuel stop.
The estimated total cost to charter a Learjet 60 for this one-way trip is $18,000 to $27,000.

Chartering a private jet from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas typically costs between $12,000 to $25,000+ one-way, depending heavily on the aircraft category, flight time (roughly 3.0 to 4.0 hours),

Probably generated decent cash flow annually while running his businesses. So the figures probably understate his spending power. Not saying he was actually at the level where he should've been flying "private," but if you assume he owns his home outright and has a few mil lying around, it's not that crazy from a $ perspective.
That being said, absolutely retarded to do this anyway.

You guys seem to be ignoring the part about it excluding the equity value. He may have been (likely was) worth a hundred million or more on paper, with ways to monetize it

Read the actual article and take it back. He definitely had higher paper value, but he seems to be a bit of a maverick who eschewed the typical VC-backed startup scam shit
In a way, that makes me a lot more sympathetic to the conspiracy from the other thread that giving the cold shoulder to Israel got him killed. Bucking the moneyed conventions of society is not a game for longevity

A real explanation would be a treatise, but I can bang out a very high level summary now:
These "founders" go through bootcamps run by shit like y combinator, MIT programs, etc. to learn the process of raising money from VCs and ostensibly how to build and manage a startup
The initial steps many founders take away are to be a confidence man to raise money. Promise big for shit you have no idea how to do and use the post-raise period to build a narrative about how you could start to do it with a little more money. Repeat as long as it takes to either extinguish all funding sources and run out of runway, bolt on new ideas that will allow continued fundraising, solve part of the process sufficiently well that more money comes in, or you get acquired
While operating, take advantage of VC boards whose entire modus operandi is that 80% or more of their investments will fail and that they're too dumb to know which ones will succeed, so they are largely derelict of duty when it comes to oversight. Worse, many are ego maniacs who are too dumb to bring people with real industry knowledge into board meetings even as simple listeners, so even the wildest and dumbest shit that gets built into running the company goes unnoticed by the board
All the while, promise to "disrupt" everything/anything, get the board to authorize favorable loans that need never be repaid to help monetize holdings, run tender offers alongside fund raises to sell shares at high prices, and run buckwild with virtually no controls on the shit you use your company card to pay for, and if you're a unicorn CEO, partake of all possible honeypots that places like Davos and founder conventions in Vegas will throw your way while arranging "business travel" to give time for antibiotics to cure your STDs without your spouse wising up

lol'd at this. Thank you. The entire institutional investor class is mostly process monkeys or complete dumbasses who think they're gods. Maybe 2% - 3% are actually investors in any way beyond the simple mechanical definition.
it's incredible how much of our economy revolves around this non-sense, which is as you say, basically because 1 in 100 go 500x, they just throw money at anything that comes through the door. so many fortunes have been made just by having confident chad spew bullshit.
