Critics love them but they are all boring as shit to me. I feel like maybe they are just for little kids but lots of weebo adults like them too. Am I missing something?

Yeah but IME there are fewer adults without kids trolling for Disney movies. There a ton of adults, mostly lib males, raving about Ghilbi movies all over the internet.

Most Ghibli films are not going to strongly appeal to non-weeaboo adults

Princess Mononoke would be an exception.

I agree with OP. Nothing against them but always found them pretty boring. I like a lot of art and culture from Japan but I honestly have no idea why people love Ghibli. It does seem kid oriented. I honestly can't sit through one of these snoozefests without passing out. Nothing to keep the attention span going. Again I have never explicitly disliked anything about them in particular but also never understood the hype. Whatever it's just not for me.

I know people who will die on a hill defending Totoro as Great Art though and I just don't get that attitude.

I really feel sorry for anyone that doesn’t get Miyazaki’s films. Not that they’re all amazing but the best ones are. They have a very unique aesthetic but also seem to tap into some sort of collective consciousness in their visuals.

Check out The Wind Rises. It doesn't have the same magical realism as the other movies.

Libs hate Miyazaki for it as it romanticizes the life of the chief engineer behind the Zero fighter plane.

Totoro and spirited sway I wasn't a huge fan of but mononoke, castle in the sky, kikis delivery service, howls are all total peak stuff. They're "kids movies" in the sense that kids love them but they have universal and timeless themes and great characters, animation, and stories. Compared with any modern movies (last 30 years maybe) they're basically transcendent, but on their own they're still really really good

'Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind' is awesome. Highly recommend it. Great score as well. The Ghibli stuff is often very non-western in that it is more "slice of life" than a traditional movie. Nausicaa has a real plot and all that. Great animation as well.
