She fell 25k feet in a minute and was considerably calm given the circumstances the whole time. Her final summation that they were out of time implies she was working for control the whole time.
She also was determined to be a commercial pilot and was doing great career wise for age 20. Freak accident.
Hard to believe she’s not in the top 50th percentile of pilots in similar situations.

that's right. and she was the official "Navigator" while the pilot concentrated on the controls. the 55 year old pilot is not at fault for flying headlong into a horrible storm. This all falls on the Navigator, a 20 year old woman. Case closed.

CR. This isn’t Sully dealing with a bird strike while gliding peacefully. An uncontrolled dive like that would have been physically excruciating.
I’m just referring to her composure, not whatever caused the crash. The lack of remotely high quality theories is interesting (“flew into a thunderstorm” is not in itself an adequate explanation for a hang glider falling out of the sky, let alone a Learjet). A little over half of commercial aviation crashes are pilot error, and that figure is substantially higher for general aviation, which is actually pretty remarkable when you consider that maintenance is *much* worse in GA. (In general, GA is actually a lot more dangerous than people realize.) I get the impression that this setup was kind of midway between GA and the regionals in professionalism but I dunno.
Wasn't it released that she was the co-pilot and there was a male (55yo) pilot? Given that circumstance, I think the fact that she was even able to relay the information she did while speeding straight down toward the earth was pretty remarkable.
Also, given what you know about men vs women, whose idea do you think it was to recklessly fly into that storm, which it seems to be consensus was the catastrophic decision here? Think about that Nathan Fielder documentary series. Do you think she felt like she could say otherwise? If she did, do you think he was open-minded or dismissive?
Pisses me off that people were shitting on her just b/c she was on the audio. She showed a ton of bravery here for someone so young despite having a front row view of an unimaginable horror.
OP of the seminal thread on the topic here. I agree, she did fine and I poasted in haste to align with boart standards.
What's REALLY funny is all the mediocre white men here have not accepted yet that the actual pilot was a 55 yo white male from the midwest. They love accountability for everyone but themselves, folks.
