The demure Haley Joel Osment is supposed to make the film feel spooky, and maybe pairing him across the screen from Bruce Willis who fills the scene with his oversized charisma is what helps the audience not see the visual clues that Bruce Willis’ character can only be seen by Haley’s character and the audience.
