instead of moving, we did a $150k reno on the house last year and made the basement a functioning living room type space, added like 200 sq feet to the living room by tearing out a screened-in porch, redid the kitchen, and i tore down a detached garage and rebuilt it as a home office.
i also got a 250 gallon reef fish tank in 2023 and i really don't want to have to move that, so that was a factor.
we bought this house when i was a lowly associate at jackson lewis and our HHI was $250k. even then, i shot kinda low on home price ($550k - we were approved for $1 m). our HHI now is like $750k and should be over a million next year. i kinda wish we'd spent more on a nicer house in a bigger neighborhood but whatever. financial freedom is 180. i can walk away from my job anytime i want. |
