Last night I had to work late and so around 11:00 I'm walking back to my apartment building with my friend/co-worker (female). I passed this bar and there were a couple of drunk guys laughing and shoving each other out in the sidewalk, just messing around. As I'm walking by, one of them says, "Hey, look at this faggot here!" I stop and turn around and he's like, "Ooooh, you going to do something, faggot?" *he and his friends laugh* My friend was pulling me away, and I just thought fuck it, and walked off. I wanted to smash his face in (or at least try to....he was a lot bigger than me) but I don't need the trouble...
This little story is my roundabout way of asking, when shit like this happens to you, as it occasionally does to everyone, how easily can you brush it off and move on? It's been 24 hours and I'm still pissed at it. Pissed at those dicks at the bar. Pissed at myself for not defending myself. Pissed at my friend for being the wiser one and pulling me away.

somethin like that would piss me off real bad for a couple days then i let it go. I let pretty much everything go pretty quickly. Like if i have to retake a class, i'll be pissed for a few days then go ahh well such is life.

I've had the same type of thing happen to me, and its tough to just brush it off. Especially since I've been in law school, I've been very careful to make sure that I don't get caught up in a bar fight somewhere because I don't want any arrest records to explain on my bar application. You replay the scene in your head for a few weeks, wishing that you had punched a guy, and then you gradually just forget about it and move on, glad that you made the right choice.

Exactly. If they are so insecure/idiotic that they have to degrade you to feel good about themselves, that's their own problem. It is fair to get pissed off, and fair to be really angry about it afterwards, but the best thing to do is just let it go. Brush it off. Not letting them get to you is going to piss them off more than anything.

Even if you didn't feel better, he certainly felt worse. If you accept the notion that everyone ought to get his just deserts, then sometimes individual acts of vengeance are the only way to effect that policy. You can't always rely on the law, God, karma, or coincidence to balance the scales.

I don't seek out their company, but, have seen my fair share. Someone called faggot is usually showing some kind of weakness. It's not completely random.

Are you feeling helpless in other aspects of your life, though? Because for me, that contributes; if I've been in another situation where I'm not getting respect, or not getting heard, and then a situation like that gets me off the wall. But when life is going well, it bounces off me.
