It’s obnoxious how much credit both bands get because they excelled at the art faggy publicity games of that moment when all of their forerunners (Stooges, MC5, VU, NY Dolls) contemporaries (eg The Clash, Bad Brains, Buzzcocks) and successors (Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minor Threat) made much better music and were 100x more influential on the genre in every way other than hair/clothes and being dicks to reporters while being interviewed.
