The hollywood development girl red-head that briefly fucks Christopher, and the pregnant stripper Ralphie kills are both not only smoking hot, but have enough subtlety and character to last seasons.
Sopranos would introduce them and dispose of them in one episode.
They were writing and casting on a level that still cannot be touched by anyone else ever
but still somehow we have years of Charmaine, lol

cr.
it wasnt all home runs. the female napolitana crime boss was lulzy, poorly cast.
but when they really hit, it was insane.
i watched the tracee episode ("university") last night. it was obviously "about" young women and their mistreatment, etc., mashing meadow and the stripper and meadow's roommate and carmela.
But never heavy-handed, never feminist, never moralizing... just telling stories about girls and women. Allowing the characters to breathe and be real and make decisions and have consequences.
Tracee maybe has 20 minutes screentime max, but she is unforgettable, and a completely full and three-dimensional character.

idk. its interspersed with tony appreciating gangster films and aims at meta-commentary about movies and tv about mafioso.
Favreau immediately betraying Chris and the redhead pumping and dumping him deflate the main characters well, reminding us that they are, in fact, scum who we all enjoy watching but who have no humanity to us.
a smart show about mafia in the 2000s somehow has to deal with mafia media, and this was pretty well done imo

She was in two episodes but the point still stands. If Sopranos was made today she would have an eight episode girl power arc to make the same fucking point

i believe she is only in "university" from S3. She is det by the end. Idr if she has flashbacks appearances later, but she is not in the previous episodes
one of the things that made me doubt my own memory is that, as i recall, in her first lines she approaches tony to thank him for recommending that she take her kid to the doctor. I wondered if I missed that in some other episode, but I believe they just start her in media res.
very smartly give her a backstory and context just in a single line of dialogue

That episode was so long ago that Tracee's baby would now be old enough to be a stripper at the bing. Actually she would be in her mid-20's and hitting the point where a lot of strippers become somebody's wife and quit stripping.

The stuff with Favreau had some really funny shit - him initially thinking Christopher was there from a magazine to talk about his favorite places to eat, "Vince Vaughn wasn't there!", making fun of him and Swingers, etc.
Ralphie laughing his ass off through the window while Silvio smacks Tracee around is hilarious. "Why was i born handsome instead of rich?"

wtf that episode is phenomenal. Just Karen’s death, both for the Bobby Bacala performance, which is amazing, and all the awesome beats like the mob wives watching him crying over her casket and then looking over at their husbands. Ralph’s exchange with Del Redclay shot from Redclay’s POV where Ralph threatens to out Iron Eyes Cody. Carmela’s “whaddaya gonna do” in the parking lot after the speaker that Fr. Intintola hosts drops her mafia diss. Those are all iconic scenes that are regularly referenced today by Sopranos nerds. People hating on that episode are just mad that the mafia guys lose a fight to some bitchy libs. It’s like Star Wars fags who get so incensed about anything other than New Hope and Empire because their main attachment to the story is light sabers making them forget their feelings of insecurity about their tiny pisswyrms.

"that girl's a thoroughbred"
btw this is foreshadowing for tony killing ralphie over pie-o-mly really being about his rage over him killing tracee and tonys desire to protect innocent, harmless things.
"she was a beautiful, innocent creature and you killed her!"

And at least according to the Ralphie actor, he was playing it so that he genuinely had nothing to do with the death of the horse. I think I prefer that interpretation, although the show leaves it ambitious.

cr. there's a lot wrapped up in it. tony also sees tracee/horse as meadow, there's that scene at the party where he looks at her and gets flashbacks of tracee. he's battling his internal conflict over being part of that corruption, and how in another world meadow could have been a tracee and exploited by someone like tony.
there's also the obvious power struggle and personality clash between ralph and tony. but that doesn't explain how emotional it was. if he just wanted to kill ralph because he was disobedient and just didnt like him it wouldnt be so charged.
the decision to make it ambiguous was a great one, because it really has nothing to do with the horse. it has to do with what tony projected onto the horse, primarily tracee, and ralph *did* kill her with the same blithe unconcern.
"she was a fuckin' whooo-eer!"
"it was a fuckin' horse, what are you, a vegetarian?"
also note that this is preceded by ralph saying tony doesn't complain when he brings him a fat envelope. tony isn't just upset that ralph was cruel to an innocent thing, he's upset that he's complicit in it. every scene with him and tracee he's disregarding her. being forced to confront his role and thus his hypocrisy is what sends tony off the edge.
