It was my best day by far, I grossed ~$275

I generally had strong tips all day, capped off with a $42.50 tip to bring someone some late night Denny's and BWW. I almost wonder if they were drunk and passed out when I delivered it, I sent them one message about a delay at BWW and another message thanking them for the generous tip and got NOREPLYED both times. Who the fuck puts a massive tip on an order just to not talk to their Dasher?

I also got $27 to deliver someone 30 bags of mulch from Home Depot. That was an adventure, it barely fit in my car.

Usually, to gross ~$160 costs me ~$20 in gas. Yesterday I drove more than usual but the ratio was better than usual.

My car is on the older side so it's already incurred a lot of age-related depreciation. Any further mileage-related depreciation is vanishingly low, probably under 3 cents a mile. It probably costs me $5 in depreciation to make that $160. Tires/oil/repairs are what they are.

One nice thing is that this money is damn near tax free. I'm putting on so many business miles. The standard mileage rate is so much higher than what it actually costs me to run my car.

I am white. A very large amount of my fellow Dashers are white too.

I ran into this AZN lady in her 60s doing it. She had some largeish late model Audi SUV. Maybe a Q6 e-tron? No way she's making any real money with Doordash, any dollar she makes from Dashing is killing the resale on that car.

It's pretty hard to say. I Dash in a mostly white area. I now have 'platinum' status with Doordash, so they throw me the highest paying offers and I consequently see fewer egregiously bad offers vs. when I was starting with Doordash and did not have 'platinum' status.

When you Dash, you get to see a minimum on how much you make on an offer before you accept it - but you don't see their name. So if I'm declining orders from minorities at a higher rate than whites, I wouldn't know.

Also, a large majority of deliveries are left at someone's door - you don't really get to see them too often. So unless they have an obviously ethnic name there is no opportunity to be racist.

Do minorities tend to tip worse than whites? Yeah probably but this is offset by the fact that they tend to live closer to the restaurants. A low paying offer isn't that bad if I'm only driving a mile to complete it and I'm not waiting at the restaurant to pick it up.

Not a lawyer. I dropped out of law school 20 years ago.

The money isn't bad for how easy the work is. I happen to own a car that was pretty ideal for stacking miles on. It's 15 years old with not a ton of miles, so I'm not really incurring a ton of depreciation by doing this work.

I've noticed some beggars that have a car. No excuse to not make an honest buck Dashing if you've got a car these days

"Who the fuck puts a massive tip on an order just to not talk to their Dasher?"

uh.... literally everyone with any common sense at all? ive never had a late night/drop off order that required me to "talk" to my delivery person. it might be necessary for orders with complicated delivery instructions, but that shouldn't be the case most of the time. nobody wants to "talk" to their dasher.

And I usually am an invisible messenger. It's one of the crummy parts of the job, it's fairly socially isolating relative to how many people I am interacting with.

I simply think a little mutual recognition is in order when there is a very generous tip

It's not too hard to cop platinum.

I talked to one moron who somehow lost platinum because his customer rating dropped below 4.7. I have no idea how he accomplished that, my rating has consistently been a lot higher than that. He must do stupid shit like place bags in the way of preventing a door from opening or something
