biglaw partner is much more stable, so i vote for that. shitlaw king has to constantly be hustling and advertising, whereas a corporate book is relatively stable.

Shitlaw king still needs to produce to keep paying his employees and keep his wife from leaving him
Also it’s Easier to slack when you have an institutional book and t14 associates and service partners

Based on CSLG’s light staff before he got really successful, even A shitlaw king netting 2m with a light staff probably has one associate and several paralegals / intake people and has a payroll of several hundred. Shitlawyers can clarify.

Shitlaw king here but I've spent some time around biglolyers both personally and professionally.
I think what xoxo misses often is that the skillset and personality types are just wildly different. Shitlaw kings aren't risk averse. I'm one of the least risk averse ppl i know and having my neck on the line (in a way) on any given case stimulates me.
Most of my buddies in biglaw believe contingency is insanely risky and would stress non stop about getting paid, not fucking up some retarded motion or discovery, etc. For those ppl, shitlawing would be incredibly stressful, scary, unpredictable.
For me, biglaw would be literal hell. I have very little patience for "the majesty of the law", or the "scholarship". I like the hustle and I much prefer talking to my prole clients as opposed to corpo clients.
My machine is fairly well established and while I'm nowhere close to CSLG I'm making close to or above 1 mil a year relatively consistently with not a ton of work... (I am home by 6 every day and i very very rarely do any work from home).
EDIT: Adding I also basically take off 2-3 months every year where i just login here and there to answer questions, occasionally fly home to cut checks and check in, but otherwise everyone here just keeps the machine running. My staff has all been with me for years and know what they're supposed to do.

I'm 6 years in... Years 2-5 were insanely stressful and this is when a significant portion of shitlaw contingency firms fail because you have to scale to keep up with demand but your are 1-4 years away from making much money off that demand.
That means you're floating your overhead and staff costs for a while.
We never had to taken out a loan and I didn't really have any money going into it so it was just white knuckling over that 3 year period and barely making payroll month over month but we survived and the last 2-3 years have been doing really well, we have a solid team including an attorney, several paralegals, and then probably 7/8 support staff in various depts. who are in office and another 7 or so who are overseas (phillipines, latin america, etc.)

We use latin americans and filipinos exclusively. We dabbled with indians and they were universally shitty.
The agencies hiring these people are complete trash and we had horrible experiences with them.
Now we hire all remote ppl directly. I interview them myself over zoom and largely am just trying to figure out if they're intelligent, have a personality (i think ppl with personalities tend to be relatively smart), and are motivated.
We've had really good results with some, others have been hit or miss. We have software that tracks exactly what they're doing so we can see who's working and who's not. This is somewhat crucial.
The key is if someone is shitty, just get rid of them quickly and hire someone new. These ppl are all independent contractors with no ability to sue you in the us so you can fire at will with no advance notice and you'll have 30 applicants lined up tmw ready to interview.

i'm a smooth talking, risk taking prole with a sales background. biglaw was not for me. i bought that lie that high stakes bet-the-company lit would be suitable to my personality type but it turns out it's just a bunch of neurotic faggots hyperventilating over commas in routine discovery motions. i can't stand most biglawyers whereas almost all shitlawyers are chill.
but it's really a difference of personality and outlook. nebbish prestige-obsessed autists (i.e. most of xo) are suitable for biglaw and probably would not enjoy hanging out with fratty shitlawmos.

This is pretty accurate and reflects my experience. The shit biglolyers literally lose their minds over i wouldn't give a second thought to.
A typo on a brief?? ljl who gives a shit.
And yes so much more of shitlaw is chill networking, grabbing dinner with other lawyers and getting hammered, hanging with docs, even defense lawyers sometimes, etc.

seems like the shitlaw king would be his own boss, wouldn't have to put up with bullshit from other biglaw "partners," etc. I doubt a shitlaw king stresses too much about "contingency" fee risks - it probably averages out pretty well (with some big pops here and there) with a legit PI mill with lots of cases.
Also in Atlanta, there are literal shitlaw king groupies out there. Not flame, i've seen it happen. Example - Watched old as fuck Alexander Shunnarah (Alabama shitlaw king doing business in Atlanta) take a PI medical office "marketing girl" home from a night club and everyone gossiped about it after. Seen a bunch of younger shitlaw dorks absolutely clean it up with buxon "marketing girl" babes because they have a little success in PI.

I think the one thing is ppl understimate how difficult it is to be the next Alexander Shunnarah or "Barnes Firm" or "Sweet James".
These guys are marketing geniuses and have a deep bench of knowledge on seo, ppc, billboard, tv and radio. They also have massive war chests to fund the advertising machine, the staff, overhead etc. We're talking monthly ad spends well over 1-2 mil a month for the big dogs.
Also these guys have huge teams of staff managing everything that they've built and continuously scaled over years and years.
