The only way to address climate change is if the world collectively reduces emissions. But any country that doesn't will have a huge competitive advantage, so it would have tonhe enforced milarily. Or reductions could happen organically because of depopulation like you said. Developing countries would resist this enforcement and they're right to: the west industrialized off cheap energy and it's unfair that we'd keep our infrastructure and demand they remain poor. So we'd either have to pay their green industrialization or destroy them if they won't comply.
Any of this happening is pure fantasy. We're currently struggling in a war against a fairly weak country in large part because we need them to continue fossil fuels flowing or our economy will suffer. I think everyone has accepted this now which is why there's far less emphasis on climate policy than there used to be. |
