Anthropic is the politically fashionable and lib-approved company. As such, you should apply the same skepticism to Ezra Klein's compliments of it that you currently apply to him when he raves over a Black Female author or something.
This is not flame. I use both daily and OpenAI is still the superior product.

this guy isn't stating anything objective he's just projecting his psychological state.
the reality is most people are not pushing the limits of AI and they will get functionally the same or as-good results with any of the frontier models. when people say they love this or that model they are just projecting their psychology which is some combination of being satisfied with their AI's work and their level of fomo of possibly not using the best model out there. the second a more advanced model comes out and people do fancy new things with it he will switch and think opus 5.5 is and always was dogshit.
opus 5.5 measures comparatively well against the top tier models and it's cheap. he's just projecting his comfort in using a "good enough" model because it appears to measure well, you can see it in his language. nobody would describe fable or astra with language like "peace of mind" or "working with a reliable partner" they would be creaming themselves over how smart and amazing it is because that's how you justify the cost to yourself.
