Sometimes that messy version you make in one day is a pitchfork 9.5 right away. Then you can spend a month trying to make a better version and make it like an 8.6. It isn't always about talent or how hard you work. It's just not how it works.

All of the official Disney versions of the original Star Wars trilogies contain hundreds of changes from the originals including new scenes and edited dialog, different color schemes and limitless tinkering. They refuse to release a 4K print of the theatrical release of Star Wars because George Lucas said he was embarrassed by the limitations he had to work with in 1979. It is believed by Lucas and Disney that the new versions which continue to be altered all the time are the official version and the only way the movies ought to be consumed. There are more changes in the works and none of the previous versions are ever saved. As soon as there's a new version the old one goes to the bin and you can no longer buy it or find it through official channels.

I came here to comment about exactly this. The LaserDisc that my uncle has of the original theatrical cut is the only HD version ever released to the public, if I recall, and quite valuable. It’s the one we showed my kids to get them into Star Wars, which, in hindsight, is regrettable.

Why is it regrettable?

The laserdisk versions are like 720p. They're pretty rough looking. I have seen them many times. Wouldn't call it HD.

Nothin wrong with that. There's nothing inherently wrong with being a nerd. You just have to work a little harder to not be a dork or a loser.

No it’s because they really liked it and got into the 30+ years of hopelessly GC Pozzed add-on content. I tried to hold the line at the Timothy Zahn books but was unsuccessful.

It's understandable. I was young once too. Made many regrettable Star Wars watching decisions in my life. ¡No más!
