Anyone ever thought of part time law school? I’ve been wondering if I had a JD in 4 years when this field hit rock bottom, if that could be a decent alternative career path. I probably just watch too many law tv shows..

Title kind of says it all. I'm a 46 year old man with three kids who has been in private practice for over 15 years and I love my job and this community, unless everybody has been lying to me for all these years I'm well liked and respected, but my practice was bought out not that long ago by a juggernaut academic center (I'm not sure if my "boss" is the 75 year old chair I've met once and had 2-3 zoom calls with or one of the people I've never met with an MBA who emails me from time to time about RVU's and "metrics") and now my options are either quit or agree to terms I simply cannot accept. I am very sure that the offer is purposely ridiculous so they know I won't take it and a fresh young PGY-5 replacement has already been assigned to replace me.

Anyway, my wife is from here, this is the only home my children have ever known, and we are juggling multiple elderly parents so I cannot move. What are my options?

Please provide any productive advice that you may have. I'm in an unbelievably desperate situation and would appreciate constructive advise or "silent prayers" and don't want this to turn into a "see the job market is terrible . . . look at this poor guy" thread as I'm well aware of that and it doesn't help. Please note that I am well into my 40's with a lot of responsibilities so I definitely can't go back and do another residency and it's been over 20 years since my intern year so I can't even work in an urgent care next to a 28 year old PA/NP (unless they were supervising me!)

It is literally the most difficult specialty to get into and so distinct from the rest of the profession that there is nothing else you can do when shitcanned.

I thought 800k in Biden America is like 200k 10 years prior.

Lawyers are garbage.

Imagine superstudyazn'ing for 13 years after HS only to be marginally better off in life than a tradesman.

Radiation oncology residencies are on par with psychiatry these days in terms of difficulty of matching and desirability.

Family medicine is like generic shitlaw, although there are some true believers who do family medicine, whereas no one really wants to do shitlaw if other options exist.

TITMFCR

Still doesn't change the fact that the actual specialty and its exams are the hardest in the game.

You said hardest "to get into." That's clearly false. As for hardest, I would disagree. Radonc, like derm, is a M-F, 9-5 residency with no real call. Given that anyone who matches radonc will finish residency unless they voluntarily quit, saying it has "hard" tests doesn't real mean much. I rather have a chill 9-5 residency with hard tests that have a 100% pass rate than do a surgical residency with 80 hour weeks and easy tests that also have a 100% pass rate.

A lot of people failed exams. You are right that I said hardest to get into, when truth is it is 100% non cumpetitive now.

It doesn't change the fact that the knowledge required to be a rad onc is significantly more encompassing than any other specialty.

I've accepted that all of medicine is ttt in decline. My specialty has "good" market now. I could probably get a slightly better deal than what I got last year fresh out. But I'll just stay in academia because its stable andat least I haven't gotten sued and dont have to report to multiple boards/credentialing sites. It's obvious that medicine is quickly heading towards middle class. The only salvation is try to make something on the stock market.

I've thought about this, but unless you can go to a top 15 school (or what do those guys say, T17? something like that) then you're basically entering a similarly oversupplied market.

I'd rather take the $100-$200k to get a law degree and put it somewhere else. The one "extra" degree I would get at this point would be something in the MBA family and then really sell out. Hospital wants to employ me? Fine, I'll employ THEM. Checkmate, America.
