This doesn't seem inevitable at all -- people competing for lower productivity roles aren't fluidly transferable to higher productivity sectors. The effect seems entirely attributable to subsidy and culture-wide "lifestyle creep" social-safety-net politics. |

Even with no safety net, they'll just commit crimes or whatever. There'd be no point in working for $6000 to $7000 per year. Nobody would do it. |

If the price of such labor wasn't artificially juiced, costs wouldn't be commensurately inflated |

Your kid will be a weirdo/outcast when they start preschool if you don’t socialize them before. Which means not only having a SAHM but paying for stupid classes and shit on top of that. It’s not 1950 or even 1980 anymore. Daycare is totally normal if you are an UMC city dweller.
I guess in poor areas there are some totally shit daycares that are staffed with trashy people and who have prole kids but that’s definitely not the case in Manhattan, Boston, DC, or some other cities I’ve lived in. |
