Getting out of downtown still sucks, even though it's much better than being in the car. Yesterday a chubby black woman with a cig got cut off by someone who had to force-merge and wouldn't wait, so she put her fist in the horn for 4 straight minutes while we all just sat there. Then stomped the gas and swerved around him when the gridlock broke up, nearly scraping him. Totally flat affect the whole time too. I had to stop looking at her because I thought she'd pull a gun on me. Complete psycho.

Saw a slightly less severe road rage incident yesterday morning as well with someone freaking out, honking and passing unsafely for no discernible reason in that case.

Rage cages need to be banned. These people are going to cause major damage/injury

Downtown and the valley road leading into it are absolutely desolate today. I goofed off in the empty parking garage a bit without attracting security attention. Amazing weather and riding conditions today.

Legality is determined by mirrors, lights, signals, and plates (and possibly tuning at an unenforceable level), which dirt bikes can (and often do) run

Yes, properly equipped dirt bikes ("dual sport") are street legal in beautiful Ohio (and every other state that i know of)

So I am going to pick up the dirt bike again today. Mechanic has no clue whats wrong with it. But after riding consistently it will just die in action and refuse to start up again. However after cooling down for 10-60 minutes, it restarts with no trace of a problem.

So I guess that's just the way it is and i cant ride it somewhere if I have to get there on time. That will be good enough until it gets too cold to ride anyway. Next spring I will upgrade to a new street bike

Changed the oil and rode in on the dirt bike this morning. The oil was very fucked because I thought mechanic changed it when I first brought it in but he hadn't. So thats a good start. Made it to work without issue but it still needs to be at 1/4 choke at all times or will stall when throttle is closed. All that said, had a great time and looking forward to the ride home

Copped a new helmet, gloves, and boots today. Fresh oil seems totally circulated and the higher comfort gear makes for a delightful ride. Excited to ride to church tomorrow. Will do some fuel system treatment this week and install an inline fuel filter

You should just get a Surron or other e-moto and be done with these maintenance issues. Plus those are e-bikes so you’re allowed to use the sidewalks and bike lanes when you need to!

Got the chain tension all squared away two days ago and she was pulling like a dream today, until I tried to waddle backwards to park at work and the rear inner brake pad caught on the hub and is now dangling off by the hanger hole. Assuming this comes from overtorquing the rear axle, but this isnt something that is warned about to watch out for so who knows. Back to the garage floor

The cutting out issue that only happens when hot sounds like you may have a cracked head. The crack only widens at high temps and causes problems, then when it cools down it closes up and youre good again. I would get it hot then do a compression check

At first I thought you were talking about blue smoke the poaster. This is a great theory. When the problem resurfaces I will do this and meanwhile do a visual

Honestly surprised your mechanic didn't do this. This is in me instinctively and I'm not even a pro mechanic.

Just kidding, the piece of junk in this case is definitely the rider/mechanic

I deserve nothing but lolz at this point. A short 30+ year old obviously has no biz as a dirt bike commuter. Ive done everything but crash at this point (which i have done in years past recreationally, before I attempted commuting).

I was able to make it physically home, without having any issue until I was in my neighborhood, at which point the dangler came loose when I hit a bump and wedged itself into a tough spot--clanking against my spokes as they rotated. The pad bent completely around the hanger pin and is now useless.

Tried removing the caliper and discovered the pin bolt got bent when I tightened the axle nut. So lesson learned is to use a torque wrench when indicated. Had to cut the bolt out with an angle grinder. I believe seriously that when new hardware and pads arrive I can use the same caliper to rebuild the brake, we'll see. Most likely I will fuck up some other part in the process lol.

Unlike "contractors" work, which can vary on a huge range of quality, mechanics work has only 1 right way- and a million ways to fuck up.

You must fuck up in every single one of those before you can be a true mechanic

The other thread about the guy getting ripped off on brakes, battery and fluid reminded me to update this. Got the caliper back on after nearly giving up when I polished the piston and could not get the fucker back in the damn hole. Finally was able to get it down in there by lubing with brake fluid

Rode last night and this morning, riding great. Got the rear axle nut properly torqued with a torque wrench and it's humming now. Brake pedal feels a bit different so I am going to bleed again soon because I was pretty haphazard with the brake fluid exchange and did not have the right tools as usual. Wish me luck to keep this thing going until it gets too cold for good
