Myanmar is China's cure to the strait of malacca. They're massively investing in ports and pipelines. The US historically supported the rebels to keep the area off limits to investment. This move is not seemingly in that direction. Maybe there's been a tradeoff recently? Pull them more towards the US? Curious.

Tommy, let me stop you...the dumbest thing abt US/western foreign policy is they think places like pakistan, myanmar, etc can be "fixed"... nobody actually thinks this. If eg chaos breaks out, it's usually the preferred outcome.

going to back Tommy on this.
some of these people in backwater regions can never be "fixed" they will always be forever fucked up. it is not even worth saying out loud that the US has no business intervening because their desired outcome of a peaceful democracy will never ever happen.
this is a country of buddhists gleefully slaughtering muslims.
lol at tt6 who has fucked a bunch of burmese child prositutes thinks he knows something

Oh stop. He doesn't make these decisions. I doubt he even knows where Myanmar is. However, there are lots of war planners gaming this. I want to know why they made this shift. Was this a concession for something else or another US goal?
Date: October 9th, 2026 1:47 PM Author: Hot church building
its not US, its cause china, india and EVERYONE incl ASEAN has no given up and they all have let the dictator dood visit. its over trying to oppose them
the US was actually late, now the writing is on the wall so they want to just join in
myanmar has not much to offer except prob METH for trump supporters so its not a big deal
This seems highly likely related somehow to the middle east policy. Perhaps a concessionary acknowledgement of myanmar place within chinese sphere of influence for some kind of forbearance of assistance to iran/houthis. Or some broader energy deal.

They care because Myanmar is a pressure release if the US closes Singapore off. Note the US signed massive security agreements right before the Iran war with countries around the strait. That's 80% of China's oil. The pipelines in Myanmar could limit that.

rofl im sure china is BIG scared of US military esp navy after stellar performance in iran
u ppl are just war mongers non stop even when u lose and lose and lose
and it wld be pakistan that is the pressure release, myanmar i dont think they even finished any pipeline to a port and even if they did u have to sail in the BAY OF BENGAL which the indian navy control

Choke points make the navy's job easier. US navy stock has gone up with the war. The future is mid tier countries with cheap ballistics getting fed expensive satellite data from top tier powers. We complain about China doing this with Iran but it's the Ukrainian playbook the US set. However, with a moving target like a carrier they need more active guidance and that's too much. So Iran can easily hit a US radar installation with day old satellite data but it's nearly impossible to hit a moving carrier. They tried.

For years, the U.S. isolated Myanmar’s military junta following the 2021 coup, supporting the pro-democracy resistance through the BURMA Act. However, the U.S. completely pivoted toward direct engagement with the junta. A high-level U.S. delegation secretly met with junta leader Min Aung Hlaing.
Ostensibly, this was to negotiate the release of a detained American businessman and crack down on cyber-scam networks. In reality, two massive geopolitical motives drive this transactional shift:
• The Rare Earths Race: Myanmar holds the world's third-largest deposits of heavy rare earth elements, vital for U.S. defense tech, electric vehicles, and microchips. China currently relies on Myanmar for roughly half of its heavy rare earth ores. By opening doors with the regime and lifting select commercial pressures, the U.S. is directly trying to secure a supply chain and undercut Beijing's global mineral monopoly.
• Beijing's Encroachment: The U.S. realizes that total isolation simply pushed the junta entirely into China's arms. To prevent Myanmar from becoming a functional satellite state of Beijing, Washington is selectively offering a diplomatic lifeline.

Myanmar was kept a mess because of what you just wrote. And belt and road failed in Nigeria. Huge oil producer outside of the ME. China dumped billions in but US swept in and offered to setup refining in the country along with SI data centers. US partners with the local military and these countries love investment from BIG OIL. Chine gets the shaft. Same in Venezuela.
