Discord popped off dramatically starting late 2010s through 2020s and it was the death knell for persistent world MMORPGs since you could be in constant chats with your whole friend group so the novelty of a persistent world with guilds and chat wasn't as appealing.
It's weird because i've periodically popped in (very briefly) to check out the latest expansion or some of the WoW classic releases in the 2020s and in my mind I was picturing all of the people in Stormwind chat or w/e as a bunch of 18-26 year olds like when I was younger and playing at that age. But no, even then it was all full ass adults in their 30s, slowly dying

Recycled old content isn't nearly as good as it was when it was fresh, but I still enjoy chilling in Classic WoW for 30 minutes or so after work.
Retail WoW is a complete pile of shit- left it in Warlords of Draenor and haven't considered going back. |
