Resolved:

their first album was amazing

they got way too famous and partied too much

Eddie was a legit virtuoso and genius (way better than Prince)

A lot of their albums are not very good on the whole

Their most famous song is a pop song

No one really cares about Sammy Hagar but supposedly he's a nice guy

Diamond Dave is probably mentally retarded

Hall & Oates

The Police

Fleetwood Mac

Queen

Guns & Roses

Tom Petty

Radiohead

Pearl Jam

Nirvana

All of those and prob many other rock bands are above VH.

none of those had the impact or longevity as fucking VAN HALEN.

Eddie himself influenced basically every person picking up a guitar since 1982 or so, and the entire hair metal scene in the 80s was trying to emulate him

i don't understand you're point

Ten is better than any VH album

And you could make an even better album than Ten with the best songs from VS and Vitalogy

Eddie Vedder is one of the best front men in modern rock

And EVH is the only member who surpasses any PJ member musically

And brother I am saying this as someone that can name more VH songs and prob listened to VH more over time but it's one note shit that all blends together and never rises above the genre of frat party music

I don't even think this is controversial but maybe I'm off

Eddie was great. One of a kind. Changed the game. But it's weird to bring up Prince, who was just going in a totally different direction. Did all of his own singing, wrote more complete songs, had more range, played more instruments, took more risks, did more varied experiments (even totally agreeing that Eddie did a lot of pioneering things for rock electric guitar). It's just weird to think of someone who likes the 2 guys close to equally, like comparing a jazz guy to a rock guy

I used to be a hater (I'm a GNR nut and prefer harder sounds like metalica or more fun sounds like motley crue), but this summer I started diving in and have been impressed. the downside is that besides Eddie, there is not a whole lot going on. Roth is a 180 front man but the shtick does get old after a few albums.

I saw Van Halen in concert in 1980 in San Diego's Jack Murphy stadium.. very loud.. love me some Van Halen.. the drummer is an underestimated talent. Alex Van Halen.. good drummer.. although Van Halen has a big reputation, really they only had two or three good songs that they wrote themselves. Two or three of their best songs were written by someone else

I think you're right and I didn't follow this closely before

Looks like they used the covers to catalyze their album releases, and "steal notoriety" from forgotten acts to artificially elevate their own hits

Just googled this in a few secs but holy shit you've made me reframe my entire view of this fake band
