After my parents retired they got really into genealogy and went and found her extended family around Athlone. Apparently her mother had gone to England as domestic help in her teens, and came back pregnant. At that time the church didn't allow unwed teen mothers, so they made them give their babies to the church. My my grandfather on that side is probably some kind of lord or something.
