Some fat chick who was part of a different fed came across my posts and befriended me. Her fed was ailing and about to fall apart because the president had quit and she asked me to step in for him and revitalize the fed. I went out and scoured newsgroups for new talent to join the wrestlers that had stuck around, actually assembled a workable roster, and booked some feuds and a PPV. I wrote up a pretty decent match card, including a detailed heavyweight title match main event. At the very end, I had Justice come out to present the title belt to the winner and announce himself as the new commissioner, and many were lauding the PPV based on what I had posted to that point, even those who were familiar with and hated the Justice character.

Then I made the final post, and Justice concluded his speech with "AND I'M YOU'RE NEXT OPPONENT" and completely destroyed the new champion in outrageous fashion, doing the Scales of Justice finisher to him off the top rope through multiple tables on the floor outside the ring. Everyone was completely outraged and the fed basically disintegrated. The fat chick sent me a lengthy email about how hurt she was that I had betrayed her trust. lmao

One of the the players in the top 5 had noticed my ascent and recruited me to be his ally in the next game. The alliances were entirely informal in the sense of game mechanics, but basically you probably weren't going to win without some because anyone thought to be too far ahead was going to get gangbanged. Basically, one player would focus on actually building structures/economy and trying to win, while his allies would build militaries and attack rivals.

I'm sure this guy thought I would end up supporting him given his sort of stature in the game community and me being brand new. But I mathed the fuck out of the game and was absolutely running away with it in my first full season despite the field being 2000+. Even efforts by rivals to form a massive coalition against me failed to knock me out of the top spot. Eventually my ally had to concede to my dominance and abdicate his ambitions to a full support bitch role. I am one of the elite few motherfuckers to have seen the "You have built the Royal Palace" message screen back when it mattered and nobody can take that away from me.

I want to say that I won something like the 4th or 5th Age, back when the game was at its height. Apparently it lingered on for almost another 20 years, through 70+ ages, and a website redesign (it had a black and orange/gold aesthetic when I played).

I still get amped up when I think about rushing through my last set of turns and accumulating the massive resources needed to build the palace, because getting attacked WHILE you were playing was about the worst thing possible. Attacks stole a percentage of peasants/resources, so you never wanted to get hit with a large stockpile. Optimal strategy was to have everything sunk into a new building (so not much to steal) and a modest defense while you waited several days for maximum turns to accumulate and then fire your defense when you started playing turns in a burst so that you wouldn't have to pay upkeep. I took this to its most extreme, min-maxed conclusion and completely rewrote the book on how the game was played.
