I would also say some studio monitors (like JBL 306, like $280 for the pair). If you get Komplete, you will want a midi controller, these can be really cheap and honestly just get a used one (tons of these stacked up at guitar center last time I was there)
Do you have Mac or Windows? If Mac, its almost a no brainer to just get Logic Pro for $200, unlimited upgrades, etc. Logic Pro also has its own suite of synths and I think even a guitar sim, and a pretty robust drum software. It also has its own version of Ableton's Live Loops which is what people like so much about ableton.
If you have Windows, get Reaper like he recommended |

I just checked, and my primary interface (MOTU M4) does have +48V phantom power, I think its the line in vs instrument setting - hence why I probably didn't know when a DI was needed.

Hell even today 5150 amps (no longer Peavey) are found all over the place in rock and metal music. |
