I've got a big-ass back yard, and it's a pain to mow or to pay the rip-off artist lawn guys around here to mow. My dogs are the only ones who go back there, and the fence prevents my neighbors from seeing it.
So I figured this summer I'd just let it grow as a test to see how bad it would get. I thought it would get way higher than it actually did, and there are zero weeds with no treatment because the high grass crowds it out.
I'm never going to mow that back yard again.

Looks fine to me as the dog playground it is. You're right about an occasional tree springing up, but they are very easy to pull up when small. No weeds at all.
