Suspect in March fatal shooting found in Mattydale, charged with murder
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Syracuse Police Department arrested a man for murder in connection with a fatal shooting in March.
On May 27, the police department charged Lykee Gibson, 23, of Syracuse, with murder in the second degree for the death of Jesus Delgado, 25, of Syracuse. Gibson was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon for the incident.
Officers responded to the 100 block of Lawrence Street around 12:13 a.m. on March 3 for a ShotSpotter alert. ShotSpotting is a surveillance system used by law enforcement that alerts officers to gunfire.
The police found Delgado at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds to his midsection and chest. Delgado was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Homicide Unit detectives interviewed numerous people to find Gibson. The suspect was found at 216 Earl Ave. in Mattydale, N.Y. The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, the New York State Parole, Syracuse Police Department Warrant Squad all participated in taking him into custody.
Gibson is being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
