Early 40s friend of mine just got a nasty case of shingles and said it was truly horrific. He might have some long term vision damage.

Thinking I might just pay for the vaccine out of pocket.

Good friend got it last year aged 46. Half his fucking face was frozen for like 2 months and he said the pain was terrible.

I had shingles years ago and it was extremely unpleasant. Despite people saying that "stress doesn't cause it," it is absolutely a driving factor for cases in younger people.

It was really quite brutal for the first few days, but thankfully all was well after about a week or so with medicine.

I got shingles in Germany on my way back to the states. Had no clue what it was until I talked to a doctor about it during outprocessing in Texas. I told him about the splitting, agonizing headaches, nighttime nausea, and paralyzing fatigue and he was like "yeah right. Everybody has that. If you didnt get treatment in the middle east, you can go" and then i said "oh I also have this herpes explosion on the palm of my hand" and he said "oh nevermind, you have shingles"

How common is that? I thought shingles was pretty much only a risk for oldmos, so people didn't get the vaccine until their 60s.

I know a guy who got it in his 30s or something. But he was short and Jewish so probably unhealthy anyway.

This guy was also sneezing a lot and lactose intolerant. granted his wife had two sets of twins so it could have just been the stress.

I already got the real shingles about 10 years ago. Do I still need the vax? Nm, I'll take it. And whatever else they got.

I had a very mild case at 40. It lasted like 6 weeks. I had it on my shoulder and back. I didn’t have an plaques but it kinda felt like a bad sunburn with tingling pain and sensitivity. It was unpleasant and made carrying a backpack a pain in the ass.
