LJl India has built 1k in like the last 10 years of modern metro (subways, for u birdshits) and at least 10 major airports ive lost track. At least Israel's per capita GDP has become first world though!

U.S. metro/subway (heavy rail) added

Period New metro/subway route Approx. km

1980s ~58 mi ~93 km

1990s ~207 mi ~333 km

2000s ~60 mi ~97 km

2010s ~60 mi ~97 km

2020–2023 ~10 mi ~16 km

1980–2023 total ~395 mi ~636 km

Infrastructure here is pathetic but this isn't a good measure. Did we really need more airports? How many did we build the prior 50 years?

since 1980 only added 11k highway but almost all of that was pre 2000, since 2000 only 3.8k

If you mean 11,738 km of Interstate added since 1980, as a percentage of the entire U.S. public road network in 1980:

Total public road mileage in 1980: 3,859,837 miles = ~6.212 million km

Interstate added: 11,738 km

11,738 ÷ 6,212,000 = 0.189%

So about 0.19% of the entire U.S. road network in 1980.

But if you mean as a percentage of the Interstate network that existed in 1980:

1980 Interstate network: ~66,176 km

Added since 1980: 11,738 km

= 17.7%

per capita is the only metric that matters when comparing roadway systems across countries because all that matters when you're driving is the distance & number of other drivers nearby

At least 50% of USA airports should be destroyed and never rebuilt

Honestly there should only be like 8 max regional airports and 3 international ones

I'm currently stuck at a major US airport because we can't do anything right. First the plane couldn't take off because there was drizzle. Then while waiting we were informed that the plane no longer had fuel, so we went back to the gate. Then they said the crew "timed out" so how a new crew is on the way. The flight was supposed to take 2.5 hours and it is 5 hours later. At least I'm in first class. I can't imagine being squeezed in economy for all those hours. I would be enraged.

By the way, I eventually got home that evening but it basically cost me the time of a trans-atlantic flight. Insult to injury: they gave me a $20 meal credit and I went to get a lox bagel at the airport. The cost? $21.80. No drinks or anything, just 1 bagel and tax. It was a great bagel but holy shit.

yes, because the US was an advanced country in 1980 while 100% of indians were living in dung heaps, unlike only 98% of indians today. every major american city already has airports.
