kid is starting K next year and got a packet of "summer homework" which is a bunch of dumb worksheets that he will be able to do in an hour.
i never had "summer homework" and i got into multiple ivies.

My highschooler gets homework. They force the kids to use a program that doesn't allow copy and paste because they're worried about ai. To kids it's like doing long division when you have a calculator - they think it's a farce. |

Teachers are giving your kids homework before kindergarten because they're trying to set expectations for what your kid should know. Some kids can already read and some kids don't know any letters - so they're trying to account for that.
If your kid knows all his letters/sounds/numbers and 50+ sight words he's fine. If he doesn't then you should work on that so he's not behind everyone else. |

giving kids an assessment and making them work on things they dont know would be far more logical than giving every kid the same stupid worksheets.
my kid was 99%ile for his grade this reading assessment they do 3x/yr, and he is already doing low-number multiplication tables. what the fuck are these stupid worksheets going to do for him? |
