It's all a continuum with virtually no stopping point for how bad it can get
We think life is hard as children, but wait until you work
We all think work sucks harder but it's easy compared to being old
We all think being old sucks but it doesn't compare to being a through-and-through cripple
Being a cripple is really hard, but it doesn't compare to being a blind cripple schizophrenic living on alms in a dump in India
Basically, the horror of being alive is like an infinite numbers game. Any situation you can concoct can be made worse, just like any number you give me as the biggest number, I can just add a few more zeros
In short, life is faggot but none of us really have it all that bad if you realize just how bad it can be

I was very, very moody and insecure and lashed out at the people closest to me. starting insanely young.
from the outside I looked like a good kid, didn't get into trouble often, valedictorian, standardized test prodigy, etc. but I was very angry and misbehaved at home a lot. my mom doesn't remember but one time she said, "I'd prefer if you were like [friend]'s son and doing drugs and getting in trouble instead of being so mean to us" lmao :(
but I chilled out in my 20s, got comfortable in my skin, and am now a normal, positive, sociable person

The difficulty of kid life is underrated in some ways
The Gunning people do to get into Good Schools appears to leave no time for Sleep or Console Games
For Losers, the difficulty of shoot-em-ups can be demoralizing
For Scumbags they have to learn how to fight and avoid getting stabbed. Scumbag adulthood has its own trials including at least 200 miles of driving every single day and turning wrenches at weird angles that give you arthritis later in life, plus having No Health Insurance. Scumbag adolescence is more dramatic like The Outsiders or something.
Scummy kids also have to deal with Failing Grades or not graduating hs which is ignominious af and rather common. This is the sort of ignominy that Losers can delay until they try to get a job or something. No one has ever written an NYT article about failing 7th grade. No one talks about the Ignominy of the Scummy underbelly.
In little league you have people throwing balls directly at your head on purpose when you’re like 9 and it’s considered Normal. It’s the sort of thing that’s easier to handle when you’re older but you do it when you’re 9.
