In that it’s no longer a “tragedy” when you hear about it in someone that age. Before 50 people think “how young, there but for the grace of God go I”. But after 50 is lumped with “50 and above” and no one thinks you got gypped out of life, maybe it was just a little early.

Thoughts?

What haven't you accomplished by 50, through no fault of your own, that could reasonably be construed as getting gypped?

For so many people that counterexamples are inconsequential, the answer is "nothing." Olds should just die

i dont think it's that they got gypped out of life as much as that their family gets gypped out of having them. if you're 50, all that matters is kids/grandkids

It would be better if olds just died. Kids would grow up faster, parents would be incentivized to mentor and prepare their children more, and we wouldn't have boomer-driven housing crisis and wealth-theft crisis. This is how life was for quite a long time

Sure, you'd have some olds here and there who beat the odds and helped out, and that's fine. But the pendulum has swung way too far in that direction, and now olds are treating their families and children like pets

I think that about everyone I don't closely know. To do otherwise is kind of hypocritical

People, including babies, are dying somewhere around the world at any given moment. If I'm not broken up about that despite knowing it's going on, why should it be any different just because there's an article with someone's name or picture or whatever in it? Or a neighbor or a coworker or something?

For people I know closely, it really depends on the type of person they are and what they seem to be doing to those around them

Agree with this. Far more dependent on the person and how well they took care of themselves (or didn’t.) For healthy people who have built a real life, I think it’s viewed as tragic if they are under 60. If they’re a fat slob mess, it’s viewed very differently.

I think anyone who dies under 70 is too young and under 80 is still a bit surprising if they don't seem obviously unhealthy. 80 is when you get to "death is imminent and expected"
