pretty much because outside of the top 10 picks, the vast majority of the guys taken in the nba draft turn out to be largely irrelevant, whereas in the nfl draft you are expecting guys taken as late as round 3 or 4 to be instant contributors

Outside of 40 or 50 NBA players, you could just plug earl tp in for anyone and it wouldn't make a difference.

yeah thats the point. only the superstars matter in the nba, and if youre lucky you might get two or three in a draft class. makes the draft really boring.

also college basketball has really declined in recent years so people dont know the people being drafted from college that well, and really dont know the random europeans thrown in the mix

i think back in the day people had more familiarity with the draft class from cbb and higher (unrealistic) expectations for their performances at the next level. nowadays people watch less cbb so they just know the draftees from their draft profiles, they are more anonymous, and its easier to see the reality that caring about the draft is a waste of time

cr. everyone seemed to know the top college players back then so seeing them get drafted was a big deal

nba draft gets its juice from a small handful of guys at the top but people still cared just for them

other than wemby when was the last time there was a super highly anticipated draftee? zion williamson? and then who?

*edit - i guess cooper flagg but he almost proves the point, he was hyped but seems like the attention was so much lower
