If the US supports via intel and financial means the killing of political leaders/supporters in Russia and Iran, then its fair game that they can do the same to US leaders who support those right?

So giving money and intel to kill people and them killing you back... doesn't count as fair?

That’s correct there has always been that distinction even in true proxy wars unless you really want to open yourself up to a direct attack

so its ok for US to use proxy's to kill Russian leaders... but Russia cannot use a proxy against USA because USA is not directly engaged with Russia?

This isnt a "well if the go into the past we shouldnt have done that." The facts are that we did. Therefore, fair for them to target the same in the US as we support the targeting in Russia/Iran?

There's no direct evidence that I know of that we targeted civilian leadership in Russia. I think everyone knows there's no question we/NATO assisted Ukraine in their military brass assassinations. As far as Iran goes, or really broadly there's not really any set practice in IHL that says civilian leadership can't be attacked in conflict it just generally isn't done. So it's not a question of we did it so they can do it. I'm also pretty sure Israel is the ones that actually took the dirt for whacking the leadership, on paper it wasn't us. I don't know at this point really anything is fair game. I think without a doubt Trump, JD and entire cabinet are lawfully open to get hit by Iran. Russia is another question. I'm just worried about chemical weapon use.

Should add the distinction between executive leadership and parliamentary leadership. Obviously the argument gets weaker for non-chain of command elected officials but in our current it for tat seems like Iran can do what it wants

What am I fighting? I said there's nothing stopping targeting elected officials during conflict except non-binding state practice. But we are very much not in a conflict with Russia. If that's what you're saying then you're a faggy idiot.

But then the bigger question and your faggy idiot OP is about just targeted killings in general. And that's not a question for international law or our domestic law, that's up the law of the targeted country to just treat it like murder. Some will disagree but our state executive, any state executive, per that state's domestic law can arbitrarily kill anyone in the world it wants to if not in a conflict situation and the person isn't subject to jurisdiction or whatever domestic due process rights that state offers.
